The Thing About Happiness

$4,000.00

Acrylic on canvas

Unframed, with the sides of the canvas painted black. Wired and ready for hanging.

The idea for this painting was born after a lot of thought about time. Time is such a valuable and fragile asset that we never seem to have enough of. Our happiness is often dependent on how we use and perceive our time. The key to happiness, so I have heard, is to be as present as possible. The canary is a symbol of happiness, but canaries were also used by miners to heed warnings of dangerous carbon monoxide levels. I liked the duality of meanings this bright yellow bird carries, and thought it was the perfect symbol for a wider concept about time and happiness.
