Blue/Violet
Original painting in hand embellished frame
The morpho family of butterflies is perhaps the most mesmerizing to me. This pearl morpho, the most iridescent butterfly in the world, is truly something to behold. Depending on the light and the angle at which the butterfly is viewed, it can appear to be blue or purple, which is why I chose to paint it to represent both blue and violet in this series. The pearl mopho is often seen fluttering around rivers, and its iridescence provides camouflage to blend in with glistening water.
The painting is 4x4 inches on Ampersand Gessobord panel. It is painted with fluid acrylics and metallic acrylic ink.
The painting frame is made of black alder and measures approximately 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 x 3/4 inches. It was handmade in the US. I have hand embellished the edges, using metallic paint/ink to match the metallic square surrounding the butterfly in the painting.
